Begun in 1739, Casal de São Pedro is a peaceful country house located in a temperate area between the historic town of Sintra in the misty hills and the picturesque fishing town of Cascais by the ocean. The house and gardens were renovated extensively in the past 50 years to create a modern and comfortable country home for a large Portuguese family.

Today, Casal de São Pedro is an ideal summer haven for guests with ample room for entertaining as well as peace and quiet. Near to the beaches, the Sintra/Cascais Natural Park and major transportation routes, there are a variety of possible excursions within short distance.

Within the walls are nearly one hectare of gardens, lawns, a pool and many hidden niches. It’s the perfect place for a large family or group of friends to spend a summer in Portugal – entirely self-contained and fully entertained within the Quinta`s bounds and close to many popular attractions.
At the entrance of of the garden is a 10m x 5m pool (2m at deepest) surrounded by the main lawn with its reclining sun chairs.
Beyond the pool is extensive English garden garden, filled with niches, hidden retreats, sunny lawns, shady walks, palms and pines, pyramid cedars, a cork forest, cactus, fruit trees and a variety of colourful plants connected by pathways.

Summers at Casal de São Pedro are spent as much outside the house as inside, with many tables available for outdoor dining in a variety of terraces around the garden. There are barbecues and grills both outdoors and indoors. Generous space in the pantry and kitchen greatly facilitate hosting parties and entertaining large groups for dining or cocktails.

This courtyard of games also features a putting green (5m x 2m) on a perfectly flat surface of artificial grass.

The open expanses of garden is an ideal playspace for children. Among the lawn games available are badminton, volleyball and croquet. There is also enough space for running sports such as football or American “frisbee.” All of the balls and equipment for these games is provided.

In the pine pathway toward the end of the Quinta, there is a hidden game of “horseshoes”.
